Aarron Jordon, a stock controller for Innovate Logistics in Nottingham, is taking part in the British Heart Foundation’s (BHF) Natural Wonders Trek in Iceland between 24 June – 1 July 2006.

The week long trek includes hiking through lava fields and grassy meadows, passing glaciers and cascading waterfalls, and going into deep canyons and geothermal pools. Innovate was one of the first names on his sponsorship form.

Aarron is taking on the challenge to support Amanda Coffman, a good friend who has been diagnosed with sudden arrhythmia death syndrome (SADS), a hereditary condition affecting the rhythm of the heart. Amanda has had a pacemaker fitted and will have to take beta-blockers for the rest of her life to cope with the condition.

“Amanda and her mother Jenny are taking part in the British Heart Foundation’s trek and asked me if I would sponsor them”, explained Aarron. “I decided I could help far more by joining in, so I signed up myself. It’s a great cause. Amanda has been so strong facing difficult circumstances, and I feel this is the least I can do for her and others coping with the condition.”

All participants in the BHF’s Natural Wonders Trek have to pledge a minimum of £2,600. So far, Aaron has raised nearly £550, and aims to surpass that amount in the coming months.

Aarron adds: “I have never attempted anything like this before. It’s not going to be a stroll in the park, but I’m up for the challenge. I have been training since February and will continue building my stamina up until I head off at the end of June. At times it’s been gruelling, especially when there is a frost in the morning, but I keep focussing on the cause and really hope that I can raise the funds required.”
